Superb weather for the first Beachvolley-tournament 2008

After some days of silence, to pay homage to our beloved Deni, life has to go on and the time has come to concentrate again on the starting beachseason 2008.

The exhibition tournament in Strassen on the 27th april was globally a great success with 4 teams very satisfied with the organisation and the location as well as the preparation they could get from this tournament.

After some tight matches, the final was played between the Lieckens Sisters and our Beachqueens, Jeanne and Norma. After a hard-fought first set that the Lieckens Sisters won 26 by 24, the second one was a bit clearer, and Jeanne and Norma had to accept the second place in the final ranking.

The second luxemburgish team Mander-Gudmannsson are also starting quite well in their first beachvolley-season and won a set against the team Beken-Beken.

The positive feedback we got from this tournament was great and we will try to organize this tournament once again in 2009. The idea to let the second court at the disposal of the spectators will also be maintained for the next year, unless we need it for the progression of the tournament.

In memoriam Denitza "Deni" Krivova

This weekend, the luxembourgish Volleyball-World has lost one of its ever most talented an ambitious player, in a cruel car-accident, Saturday in the early morning hour.

Deni, we will always keep you in our heart and we will, forever, remember your positive thinking and your shining smile. We are very sorrow that we can never again laugh with you on a Beachvolleycourt.

So we are really sad to have lost you, but we are very happy that we had the chance to know you.

In your very short life you left an inerasable trace.

My sincere condolences are going to Antonia and Ranguel: you can be very proud of your daughter, of what she achieved and of what she represents for so many of us.

New changes in the tournament calendar

The following changes have been made to the calendar:

1) the club of Bonnevoie has decided to organize his 2x2 Tournament in Cessange (5th July) as a 2x2 Mixed Tournament, and not as a Women- and Men-Tournament as planned in the beginning.

2) Another 4x4 Hobby-Tournament will be organized on 27th July in Weiler in the region of Clervaux

3) As last year, the "Syndicat d'initiative" will organize a 4x4 Hobby Beachtournament at Diekirch-Plage.

Indoor swimming-pool and delicious cocktails are waiting for you.

Please note that on 14th August, a "Tropical Heat"-Party will be hold in Diekirch-Plage. Beginning at 20:00.

Another Beachvolleycamp in Montpellier from 17th to 25th May

Being back only for about two weeks, and the weather here in Luxembourg being awful every day, we decided to go back to Montpellier for another camp.

The camp will take place from 17th to 25th may, but the length of your stay in south of France can be decided by your own, if you want to stay for holidays.

The training sessions will start on Monday 18th may and stop on Friday 24th. These sessions will focus on individual techniques and not on physical strength and condition (see our report from 1st April below).

Eventually, there will even be a possibility to play a tournament on Saturday 25th may (to be confirmed).

So we have to be at the Beach-Academy at least on Monday morning, but if you want you can travel to Montpellier some days earlier as the Academy will organise its annual "Montpellier Beach Masters" in the heart of the city.

The Beach Masters are well known to be a big event with tournaments, training sessions, beach ambiance and a lot of party. So don't miss this event from 8th to 18th may.

Exhibition tournament in Strassen

To give the new season an official start, an exhibition tournament is organised in Strassen, the 27th April.

Start of the matches +/- 10:00
End of the tournament +/- 17:30

There will be four women teams competing in a pool-play-mode:

All games are on a single court. The second court in Strassen is at the free disposal of everyone who wants to play.

We are back from Montpellier !!

Hello to all people who stayed here in Luxembourg in the cold and windy winter weather,

Sunday evening at 18:00, we came back from our Beachvolley Trainingcamp in Montpellier. As last year it was once again a really great experience.

After arriving, we spent nearly two days of relaxed sightseeing (Montpellier, Grau-du-Roi and Aigues-Mortes in the near Camargue).

On Monday the training sessions started. Every morning a session of about 1 hour and a half was planned with Ruben Barrera, the argentinien trainer of the Montpellier Beachvolley Academy. In the afternoons we had a beachcourt at our disposal for a further gameplay session on our own.

Focus was put on individual skills for passing, defending and blocking with the main part of the exercises concentrating on defense with the various possible techniques.

On Saturday, a tournament with some teams from the region of Montpellier was organised and we closed the event with some drinks to celebrate our friendship with the people of Montpellier Beachvolley.

Besides this, we could also get a glimpse of a very professional statistics program, as well as an example of a detailed training plan for a whole season.

A very special thanks to Stéphane Canet, Mathieu Hamel and Ruben Barrera for their help with all our questions about beachvolley, organisation, season planning and nutrition.

Another special thank to Joël for his huge generosity and useful hints.

And last but not least, from my side, a big compliment to Norma, Jeanne, Dani, Frank and Christian for their teamspirit. Without teamspirit, the organisation of such a camp would be very difficult.

And now a very good news for all those who missed this opportunity: a second training camp will be organised the week after Pentecost (approximately from 19th to 24th may)
